The Quarzo… Bal Harbour

Hi, welcome to The Hotel Fanatic Blog. My first post is going to be about a luxury boutique hotel called the Quarzo. Here is some details about the hotel…

This ultra modern luxury hotel is privately owned and located in Bal Harbour, Florida. The hotel overlooks the intercostal waterways just steps away from the white sandy beaches of Bal Harbour. The structure is three stories high with twenty seven suites. The location and small size of the hotel makes it a great quiet getaway location for a couple or family.

Here are my thoughts on this hotel. The things I like about this hotel is the size, design/decor and the location. The size is great in my opinion, small hotel means fewer people, that means it is quieter and more exclusive, it’s not like a large chain hotel with 300 rooms. The design of the hotel is unique, the building is a converted apartment building which is why the rooms (suites) are huge. I love how each room has a full kitchen, living room and separate bedrooms so it give you the feel of a private apartment or extended stay hotel. However unlike extended stay hotels the suites are not drab and uniform in appearance but fresh and luxurious. The only suite that doesn’t have a separate bedroom and full kitchen is the Junior Suite.

The decor of the hotel is beautiful. Each room has a very modern design that fits into the Miami Beach lifestyle, the decor outside looks and feels very luxurious. The private sun deck area is overlooking the inter-coastal waterway, with relaxing views of passing boats. The hotel also has access to the beaches just across the road.

The location is one of the main reasons I would stay here again and again. Bal Harbour is located between Surfside and Sunny Isles. It is a quiet and more residential area and the private white sandy beach is outrageous. A few blocks away from the Quarzo is The Bal Harbour Shops, rated one of the most luxurious shopping centers in the U.S with stores including Gucci, Chanel, Fendi, Hublot and many more name brands, so if you plan to go shopping there, you better get your credit card ready. If you love the night life, South Beach is a short drive down Collins Avenue..

There are only two things about this hotel that I don’t like but they are minor. The first is that the front desk is only open from 10AM-8PM. If you are checking in after 8PM you have to call in advance so that someone will be there to check you in. If you have a problem with the room I guess you will have to wait until the morning to have someone come to resolve the issue. The second thing which I find annoying is that the staff (including the front desk staff) does not seem to speak or understand English that well. Don’t be surprised when you call and they ask you do you speak Spanish? or they transfer you a few times until they find someone who speaks better English. Those are the only downsides about the hotel that I can think of.

Overall the Quarzo Bal Harbour is a great choice for the perfect weekend in Miami Beach with the family or just with your significant other. As to be expected, the rates are more expensive than your cookie cutter brand hotel, however there are deals to be found. However it is one of the most economic choices in Bal Harbour compared to other hotels. If you want somewhere really nice then down the block is the St. Regis Bal Harbour but then you’re talking about spending almost $600 a night. I think the Quarzo is the right choice.

I will actually be staying at this hotel in a few weeks, I will give you my thoughts after my first hand experience at this amazing looking hotel. Stay tuned.
