Hotel Thoughts

Homewood Suites by Hilton Rocky Mount, NC (Hotel Review)

I had recently taken a road trip to Florida, and  I stopped for the night in the area of Rocky Mount, which is located in North Carolina. I had multiple options of hotels to choose from but the Homewood Suites caught my eye. This hotel is fairly new, having just opened in January 2018. The hotel sits right across the street from a Residence Inn by Marriott and it is down the block from a Comfort Inn and DoubleTree by Hilton.

Once I arrived at the hotel I saw the new hotel in all of its glory. I walked in and was greeted by a bright and colorful lobby. The lobby was a nice open area it included a beautiful sitting area in the middle of the room, with two bright orange chairs, a funky blue couch and multiple options for your reading pleasure. Next to the sitting area was the front desk and the hotel market, where you can purchase all varieties of snacks, drinks, and frozen food items. The shop even has a small area that has Homewood Suites children books, each book is about the Homewood Suites duck and the different adventures it goes on. (The Homewood Suites logo is a duck, that is why the book is about a duck) Located on the other side of the sitting area is a wall with a beautiful modern art picture. In the center of the room is a fireplace which is great on cold nights when you want to relax next to the fire. In the back of the fireplace is the breakfast area. This area is a large high ceiling room with multiple booths and tables for you to use during breakfast.

Once I left the lobby area I took a stroll over to the business center. This is a great place to take advantage of if you need the use of a computer and a printer. This business center is by far my favorite of all that I have seen because of its style. The room is dark orange with a funky chandelier coming down over the computers with a nice chair in the corner of the room.

After I left the business center I went to see the main reason why I booked a night at this hotel. I entered my room and discovered it did not look like the picture on the website at all. On the website photos the rooms appeared to be small and cramped with little walking space but in fact, the guest room was huge. The layout is one big room with a separate bathroom. When you walk into the room you have the kitchen on the side, then the desk that sits in front of the kitchen, then you have this open space with two beds flush on the wall. In the corner is a couch with a small coffee table and dresser with a flat screen television that sits on top. Off to the side of the beds is the bathroom, closet, and sink. The sink and the lighted mirror was not in the bathroom itself but outside of it. The beds were very comfortable and had a very nice blue headboard. The full-size kitchen was a great addition to the room I made use of the full-size refrigerator during my stay. The kitchen featured a stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, and plenty of cabinets. It is not a big area but a decent size for a hotel room kitchen. If I was designing the room I would give up some of the walking space and make the kitchen a little larger in case two people want to use the kitchen at once.

After I saw my room I wanted to see the rest of the hotel so I went to the pool and fitness center. The pool is located outside of the hotel, it is not a big pool, it is a little smaller than I would like. The part of the pool area that I liked was the outdoor lounge. It is a sitting area with a BBQ, chairs, and stringed lights around the area. It was very nice but I could not take advantage of this amenity since it was late March and still too cold to relax outdoors. The fitness center was a nice size but offered the bare minimum so I was slightly disappointed with it.

The staff at the hotel was so friendly and accommodating to your every need. I even had a nice conversation with one of the front desk workers about the hospitality world. One staff member heard that I am a hotel blogger and took me into the housekeeping area where she showed me what they do to keep the hotel in top shape.

My Favorite thing about this hotel was the mobile key card and mobile check-in service. I booked this hotel on the Hilton mobile app which gave me the option to check in online, and all I had to do was go to the front desk and pick up my keys to my room. If I didn’t want to carry a plastic card around with me, I was able to use my mobile key card. Mobile key is a great option if you have a smartphone. I used my mobile key to access my room, fitness center, pool area, even the back door to the hotel. If you still want to have a regular key card you can too, you even have the option to have both. I think it is a great option when you book a hotel.

Overall this was a great hotel, with the large rooms, outdoor pool, wonderful staff, and so much more. If you are driving on I-95, stop in Rocky Mount for the night and stay at the Homewood Suites. You won’t be disappointed.
