40 Million Dollar Hotel Room on the ISS

Have you ever dreamed of going on your dream vacation to places like Dubai or China? Do you have a special destination on your bucket list? Well what about a trip to a luxurious hotel on the International Space Station (ISS). This is going to be a reality for some people who have a few million dollars to spare, but can you really put a price tag on having the an experience like no other on  (or actually off) this world?

Russia’s space agency is adding a dose of luxury to its bid to return to the space tourism business. It wants to build five-star accommodations on the International Space Station. The plan, if successful, would help Russia compete with private companies such as SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, and Blue Origin that have their own space tourism plans. If the Russians can accomplish this, then people will definitely have an experience like no other. The views alone will be extraordinary and definitely unique. If you really want to make the trip extra special you can spend 20 million dollars more and take a space walk with a cosmonaut.

Space tourism itself is not exactly a novel idea, the idea of a space hotel has been around as far back as 2010, but has yet to materialize. People are still trying to get the transportation part of space tourism down first. To be able to jump-start construction, the company has to find 12 (wealthy) passengers willing to pay $4 million up front And if at least six passengers pay for a week-long stay at the space hotel per year, the company can recoup its investment within seven years.

As Popular Mechanics noted, though, the ISS is scheduled to be decommissioned in 2028. The space contractor said the module takes five years to finish, so it will have to start building soon.

So if you just happen to have 40 million dollars lying around doing nothing, and you always dreamed of going into outer space, you might soon be able to make this item on your bucket list disappear into space.
