Trump SOHO, a five-star hotel located in downtown Manhattan will no longer carry the Trump name or be affiliated with the Trump family. On Wednesday the Trump organization made a deal to allow the company to cut ties with the SOHO property. According to the New York Times the hotel has struggled to fill rooms and sell condominiums ever since President Trump has entered in the political world.
One of the hotel’s restaurants called Koi closed earlier last year due to a drop in business after Donald Trump won the presidential election in 2016. A former employee was quoted as saying “Before Trump won we were doing great. There were a lot of people we had, our regulars, who’d go to the hotel but are not affiliated with Trump, and they were saying if he wins, we are not coming here anymore.” A new restaurant called Spring and Varick opened in the space where Koi used to be.
Earlier this year the five star hotel was starting to lay off workers and shorten the list of their many amazing services. The hotel will still be owned by CIM an investment firm in California But the trump hotel company will no longer manage day-to-day operations or brand the hotel under the Trump name.
