Summary: I booked this hotel as a solo traveller for a 5 night stay. My flight into Cairns didn't arrive until quite late. Their website indicated the reception isn't staffed 24/7, and guests have to call to be let in. I am deaf and cannot use the phone so I messaged them to let them know my ETA and asked how I could get in. They said there would be a night manager, not to worry. I arrived to find the hotel in darkness and no sign of any night manager. Instead there was an intercom - which I obviously couldn't hear. Finally someone turned up and let me in. It wasn't a great way to start. When I booked I opted to pay at the hotel, rather than up front at the time of the booking. I gave my AMEX details to hold the booking. I fully expected to pay with my AMEX. The night manager informed me that they no longer accept AMEX. This was never communicated to me prior to my arrival. I probably would have considered booking elsewhere. On leaving the hotel the day receptionist did attempt to rectify the situation my getting in touch with Expedia to transfer payment back to them. Expedia would not do this. I had not arranged my finances in advance to pay any other way. I ended up giving my Visa details to them to use the following day when I would be able to transfer necessary funds over. I thank the receptionist for her attempts to find a solution. However the situation should not have happened.
